THE TRIUMPH OF THE WEST
~~~~~~ in discovery of ~~~~~~
~~~~~~ the very highlights in baroque music ~~~~~~
=== The opening aria, "Ombra mai fù", sung by Xerxes to a tree (Platanus orientalis), is set to one of Handel's best-known melodies,
and is often played in an orchestral arrangement, known as Handel's "largo" (despite being marked "larghetto" in the score). ===
Handel is regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time, and his works include Messiah, Water Music, and Music for the Royal Fireworks. He was strongly influenced by the great composers of the Italian Baroque and the middle-German polyphonic choral tradition. Handel's music was well-known to such later composers as Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven.

Dmitri Aleksandrovich Hvorostovsky (Russian: Дмитрий Александрович Хворостовский, born 16 October 1962), is a leading baritone opera singer from Russia.
Hvorostovsky was born in Krasnoyarsk in Siberia. He studied at the Krasnoyarsk School of Arts under Yekatherina Yofel (which, in turn was schoolgirl M.N. Rioli-Slovtsova, spouse of the outstanding tenor Pyotr Slovtsov) and made his debut at Krasnoyarsk Opera House, in the role of Marullo in Rigoletto. He went on to win First Prize at both the Russian Glinka Competition in 1987 and the Toulouse Singing Competition in 1988. Hvorostovsky came to international prominence in 1989 when he won the Cardiff BBC Singer of the World competition, beating local favorite Bryn Terfel in the final round. His performance included Handel's Ombra mai fu and Per me giunto...O Carlo ascolta from Verdi's Don Carlo. His international concert recitals began immediately (London debut, 1989; New York 1990).

Giovanni
Battista Bononcini
(18 July 1670 – 9 July 1747) was an Italian
Baroque
composer
and cellist,
one of a family of string players and composers. His father, Giovanni
Maria Bononcini (1642–78), was a violinist
and a composer.
Bononcini was born in Modena,
Italy, the oldest of three sons. (His younger brother, Antonio
Maria Bononcini, was also a composer.) Giovanni Battista studied the cello
in Bologna.
He then served as maestro di cappella at San Giovanni in Monte and afterwards
worked in Milan, Rome,
Vienna and Berlin.
From 1720 to 1732 he was in London,
where for a time his popularity rivaled Handel's.
(Their competition inspired the epigram
by John
Byrom that made the phrase "Tweedledum
and Tweedledee" famous.) Bononcini left London after charges of plagiarism
were proven against him. He died in poverty in Vienna, leaving behind a wife and
4 children.
He published his earliest works for the cello, his instrument, in 1685 in
Bologna. His works other include a number of operas,
masses,
and a funeral anthem for the Duke
of Marlborough. One of his operas, Xerse,
parodied material in an earlier setting of that opera by Francesco
Cavalli. This included the aria Ombra
mai fu. Bononcini's Xerse
was in turn
later adapted by George
Frideric Handel with a third (and best known) version of Ombra
mai fu.
Xerse
is an opera by Francesco
Cavalli -
specifically, a dramma
per musica about Xerxes
I. The libretto
was written by Nicolò
Minato, and was later
set by both Giovanni Battista Bononcini
and George
Frideric Handel.

JOHANN CHRISTOPH PACHELBEL (born in Nuremberg-Germany) 1653-1706 (only 52 when he died)
the world famous " CANON in D major "
Pachelbel's Canon in D major, a piece of chamber music scored for three violins and basso continuo and originally paired with a gigue in the same key, experienced a tremendous surge in popularity during the 1970s (believed to have originated through a recording by Jean-François Paillard in 1970), which made it a universally recognized cultural item. Now one of the most recognised and famous baroque compositions, it has in recent years become extremely popular for the use in weddings, rivalling that of Wagner's Bridal Chorus. Numerous musical adaptations and arrangements of the canon for diverse ensembles exist and the main theme (or the associated harmonic sequence) is frequently adapted by pop music artists including Aphrodite's Child, Blues Traveler, The Farm, and Coolio, much like the opening of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565. The gigue that originally accompanied the canon never received the same amount of popularity, even though it is a lively energetic dance.
"when sadness drifts away ..."
Pachelbel's Canon in D major: everlasting soothing music .....
... a universally recognized cultural item ...
Pachelbel's
Canon,
also known as Canon in D major (PWC
37, T. 337, PC 358), is the most famous piece of music
by German
Baroque
composer Johann
Pachelbel. It was originally scored for three violins
and basso
continuo and paired with a gigue
in the same key.
Like most other works by Pachelbel and other pre-1700 composers, the
Canon remained forgotten for centuries and was rediscovered only in
the 20th century. Several decades after it was first published in
1919, the piece became extremely popular, and today it is
frequently played at weddings and included on classical music
compilations, along with other famous Baroque
pieces such as Air
on the G String by Johann
Sebastian Bach.

MODERN MUSIC FROM THE SOUTH ... Jody Bernal - Que Si, Que No

Jody Bernal
opgegroeid in Delft.
Lyrics:
Que si que no
Escuchame mi amor
tu sabes lo que quiero
Me dices que no entiendes
Se que estas mintiendo
Te pido por favor
Me trates como un tonto
Decides de una vez
Me estas volviendo loco
REFREIN:
Que si, Que no
Que nunca te decides
Yo se que tu me quieres
Y no me lo dices
Que Si, Que no
Que nunca te decides
Tu sabes lo que quiero
Y aun no me lo dices
Que Si, Que no
Que nunca te decides
Tu sabes que lo quieres
Y no se lo dices
Que Si, Que no
Que nunca te decides
Tu sabes lo que quieres
Y aun no se lo dices
COUPLET:
Eschuchame mi amor
te pido un alegria
Te ruega todo el dia
Te ruega todo el dia
Te pido por favor
Me tienes como un tonto
Regando tien to loco
Regando tien to loco
